US Deploys 700 Marines to LA Amid Protests

The United States military will deploy 700 Marines to Los Angeles as a temporary measure while waiting for the full deployment of the National Guard. This decision comes in the wake of escalating street protests and heightened tensions surrounding the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown.

According to reports, the deployment aims to support law enforcement efforts in maintaining order, especially near federal detention centers where immigrants are being held. The move follows a tense Monday protest outside the detention center in LA, where hundreds of demonstrators were dispersed by police.

As protesters clashed with authorities, the National Guard formed a human barricade, prompting the Los Angeles Police Department to begin dispersing the crowd using gas canisters and other “less lethal” munitions.

An anonymous US official clarified that the administration is not invoking the Insurrection Act, which would permit direct military involvement in civilian law enforcement.

The situation highlights growing unrest over the administration’s immigration enforcement policies and the controversial use of military forces in domestic protest zones.
