Southern Baptists Push to End Same-Sex Marriage in U.S.

Southern Baptists, the world’s largest Baptist organization and the second-largest Christian denomination in the U.S., made a decisive move on Tuesday by voting in favor of a resolution that opposes same-sex marriage and calls for its legal reversal in America.

The vote took place during the annual Southern Baptist Convention in Dallas, Texas, where over 10,000 delegates representing various churches participated.

Although the denomination has consistently expressed its opposition to same-sex unions, this marked the first official call from its members to overturn the 2015 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that legalized same-sex marriage nationwide.

While the resolution stopped short of using the word “ban,” it made the group’s position clear by stating support for “laws that affirm marriage between one man and one woman,” signaling a push for legislative action to redefine marriage based on traditional values.

The vote underscores the growing tension between religious freedom advocacy and civil rights movements in the U.S., especially with Southern Baptists reaffirming their stance at a time when debates around LGBTQ+ rights continue to evolve both socially and legally.
