Former Russian Transport Minister Roman Stah-ro-voit was found dead with a gunshot wound inside a car in Odintsovo, Moscow on Monday, just hours after President Vladimir Putin officially dismissed him from his position.

The Investigative Committee of Russia confirmed the discovery of the body and announced that they are currently probing the circumstances surrounding the death. At this point, the leading theory being explored is suicide, although no final conclusions have been released.

The incident occurred shortly after Stah-ro-voit’s removal from office, prompting widespread speculation. However, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov quickly denied that the dismissal was due to a “lack of trust,” and offered no alternative explanation for the former minister’s sudden departure.

The investigation remains ongoing, with officials expected to provide more information in the coming days.
